Holiday Food Basket Program

Each year, Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry has a Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Basket program to benefit hungry families.  Through the generosity of our community, the program provides all the makings of a Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner to families that request it.  In addition, at Christmas children 16 years of age or younger receive a gift and parents have an opportunity to purchase additional presents in the pantry’s Christmas Shop at nominal cost.

Families wishing to receive baskets need to provide two items with physical street address (no post office boxes) evidencing residence in the Town of Warwick (except families eligible to obtain holiday food baskets at the Greenwood Lake Food Pantry).  Acceptable evidence includes: driver’s license or non-driver’s identification; lease or rent agreement; utility bill (electric, gas, oil, propane); telephone, internet service or cable television bill; bank statement; green card; letter from school or employer verifying residence; or other similar evidence.

In 2017, sign-up for families wishing baskets begins Thursday September 28th and concludes Tuesday October 31st.  Hours are Tuesdays from 3:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. and Thursdays from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.  There will be no sign-ups after that date.  Sign-up takes place at Warwick United Methodist Church, 135 Forester Avenue corner of Galloway Road/Route 17A, entry at the far right from the rear parking lot.

Members of the community who wish to help may do so best by providing a basket for either or both holidays, with opportunities available from single person senior households to large multi-generational families.  Community members also may volunteer on distribution days (Tuesday November 21st and Thursday December 21st). Expressions of interest may be made to 845-986-2869 or info@warwickpantry.com.  The pantry always is pleased to receive monetary donations to help support the program. Monetary donations may be delivered or mailed to the church, attention: Holiday Food Basket Program, or made by credit card at http://www.warwickpantry.com.  All donations made on the website between November 1st and January 15th will be credited to the basket program.  ShopRite gift cards also will be put to good use.

A suggested menu for dinner follows.  Please remember that, if you choose to provide a food basket to a family at either holiday, you are “adopting” that family.  Open your heart and do as much as you can or care to: additional food for the holiday table; staples to help feed the family in the days that follow; gifts for the children; holiday wrapping for the boxes your holiday good wishes are delivered in; and so forth.  Be caring and compassionate to those in need.

Following the dinner menu is a form a prospective volunteer or those who wish to provide holiday food baskets may use to state their preference.  Thank you, in advance, for your generosity.
